23 AMPHIBIOUS ENGINEER TROOP BUILD BRIDGES ON EXERCISE ANAKONDA 16
Across Poland more than 30,000 soldiers from 24 participating nations have deployed on Exercise Anakonda 2016 a Polish led joint multinational exercise. Included in this number and based in the Chelmno area are Sappers from 23 Amphibious Engineer Troop (23 Amph Engr Tp), Royal Engineers and their Bundeswehr colleagues from Pionierbattalion 130 with whom they are co-located with in Minden, Germany. With Exercise Anakonda having the primary aim of testing the readiness and interoperability of the Polish forces and its NATO allies 23 Amp Tp and Pionierbattalion 130 have supported these assurance requirements by demonstrating the unique capabilities of their M3 Amphibious Rig to enable the US Army’s 2 Cavalry Regiment to quickly cross the River Vistula. This was achieved first by joining several M3 rigs together to ferry the reconnaissance element across the river followed 45 minutes later by an impressive display that saw 30 rigs come together to form a bridge over 300m long that allowed the remainder of the 2 Cavalry Regiment to pass over the water obstacle. With the crossing complete the adaptability and benefits of the two Units collaboration and integration combined with their rigorous training regime was clear for all to see.
